A man in Oklahoma, United States, has been arrested for child sexual abuse after his 11-year-old step-daughter gave birth at their home on Aug. 16.

Paternity test results revealed that the step-father, 34-year-old Dustin Walker, was a 99.9 per cent DNA match as the baby's father, the county district attorney's office shared with NBC News.

The girl's mother, Cherie Walker, 33, has also been arrested, with the charge of enabling child sexual abuse.

When they were first arrested, the couple claimed they did not know the girl was pregnant.

The 11-year-old delivered a full-term baby and received no pre-natal care, FOX23 cited court documents saying.

According to the county assistant district attorney (DA), quoted by The Guardian, the girl had not been to the doctor in over a year, and was either not in school or may have been homeschooled.

All of this ensured that the pregnancy went unnoticed and unreported.

The girl gave birth at home without medical assistance, the attorney pointed out.

"This child is traumatised," the county assistant district attorney said.

The incident came to light only after the girl was taken to the hospital following the birth, The Independent reported.

The charges

Court documents, quoted by NBC News, note that Dustin Walker is accused of sexually abusing his step-daughter on or between Jan. 1 to Aug. 16.

The couple have also been charged with six counts of felony child neglect, including failing to provide the girl with adequate medical care and supervision when she gave birth at home.

The remaining five counts involve neglect of the other five children the Walkers share, aged between two and nine.

The children were found to be "living in deplorable conditions", such as living in dog faeces and wearing no clothing, the court documents read.

They were removed from the home on Aug. 26.

"This is one of the most if not the most serious child sexual abuse and neglect cases I have ever prosecuted," the county assistant district attorney said in a statement reported by NBC News.

She added that the couple could face up to life imprisonment if convicted.

They are next scheduled to appear in court on Sep. 3.
