S'pore actor Shane Pow buys Star Awards 2025 outfit from Taobao for less than S$100

The entire set costs S$96.67, apparently.

If you had watched the Star Awards 2025 on Jul. 6, you might recall the scene where actors Shane Pow, Lee Teng, Ben Yeo, Jeffrey Xu, and Jeremy Chan walked on the red carpet, all donning black outfits and holding foldable hand fans.

Here's the kicker: Red carpet attire does not need to cost a bomb.

On Jul. 7, Pow, 34, revealed in an Instagram video that he had purchased his outfit from the Chinese e-commerce platform Taobao, spending only S$96.67 on the entire set.

Specifically, his jacket, which features bamboo embroidery on the chest, costs S$41.77, his black pants is retailing for S$26.61, and his black shoes can be purchased for S$28.29.

A search by Mothership on Taobao on Jul. 8 revealed that Pow's jacket was sold between 145 yuan (S$25.89) and 254 yuan (S$45.35), excluding other fees, such as shipping costs.

Bought outfit without Plan B

In his video, Pow showed himself holding a blue delivery bag, which contained four to five smaller packages.

He then proceeded to cut open the packages before trying on the jacket and pants.

Pow did not reveal what was contained in the other packages.

In the post's caption, Pow said he "took a risk" by buying his outfit from Taobao, and he did not have a backup plan if the fashion statement went awry.

"I'm glad it worked out!" wrote the actor.

Interestingly, in a post-red carpet interview on Jul. 6, Pow shared that the bamboo on his jacket meant to convey the Chinese idiom, "心有成竹 (having a well-thought-out plan in one's mind)", which literally means having a grown bamboo in one's heart.

He also thanked his fans for their support and reminded them to drink more water, as the weather on Sunday was very hot.
