NUS says S'pore man who caused death of 18-year-old in racing game has no affiliation to university
Court documents seen by Mothership stated that Tee was an NUS student at the time of the incident.
The man who caused the death of an 18-year-old woman during a late-night racing game was reported to be a National University of Singapore (NUS) student at the time of the incident.
However, the university has come out to clarify that 30-year-old Jarrett Tee Lee Kiat was never a student at the institution.
In a Facebook post, they wrote: "There are no records that this individual has ever been or is currently a student of NUS. He has no affiliation with this University."
Court documents seen by Mothership stated that Tee was an NUS student at the time of the incident.
Mothership understands that he informed investigators of this fact.
Case background
Tee had deliberately swerved into the path of a motorcycle during a late-night game of “blocking and braking” on Feb. 23, 2024, causing the motorcyclist and pillion rider to be flung off.
The pillion rider, 18-year-old Leann Lim Jia Le, subsequently passed away from her injuries.
Following the accident, Tee said "she deserved it as she come and push my limit".
He later pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving causing the death of Lim.
He was sentenced to five years and eight months in jail on Jun. 27 and also given a driving ban of 10 years.
