The police are looking into Tee Lee Kiat Jarrett’s claim that he was a student of the National University of Singapore (NUS), a spokesperson from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) confirmed.

Tee previously made headlines for causing the death of an 18-year-old woman during a late-night racing game.

It was reported then that he was an NUS student at the time of the incident.

However, the university had clarified earlier on Jul. 1 that Tee was not affiliated with the institution.

Asserted to police he was NUS student

According to the AGC spokesperson, Tee had asserted in his statement to the police on Mar. 8, 2024 that he was a full-time student at NUS.

This information was subsequently reflected in the "Statement of Facts" court documents that were agreed to by the prosecution and defence and submitted to the court when Tee pleaded guilty on Jun. 27, 2025.

Tee’s status as a student was not material to charges that he had faced and was not a factor taken into consideration for sentencing, the spokesperson added.

"We understand that NUS has clarified that there are no records of Tee ever being a student of NUS and has no affiliation with the University."

The police are now looking into Tee’s claim that he was a student of NUS, the spokesperson shared.

Case background

Tee had deliberately swerved into the path of a motorcycle during a late-night game of “blocking and braking” on Feb. 23, 2024, causing the motorcyclist and pillion rider to be flung off.

The pillion rider, 18-year-old Leann Lim Jia Le, subsequently passed away from her injuries.

Following the accident, Tee said "she deserved it as she come and push my limit".

He later pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving causing the death of Lim.

He was sentenced to five years and eight months in jail on Jun. 27 and also given a driving ban of 10 years.
