The body of a six-year-old boy who was reported missing in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, last week, was found on the evening of Jul. 28.

His remains were found buried in the Rompin district, located nearly three hours away from Johor Bahru, according to local news sites like Malay Mail and The Star.

From preliminary investigations, the boy is believed to have been murdered, reported the New Straits Times.

Suspect is boy's father

A missing report was lodged by the boy's father on Jul. 24.

The 36-year-old claimed his son had been missing since 6pm on Jul. 23 in Bukit Indah after the boy was left alone in the car while he went to buy food.

The Malaysian district police chief said the father was arrested on the same day he lodged the report, New Straits Times reported.

Police said that the arrest led to the discovery of the boy's body in Rompin.

The father will be investigated for child neglect and for lodging a false report.

If found guilty of murder, an offender may be sentenced to death or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years and whipped upon conviction.
