Seven people, including a child and a firefighter, were injured after a fire broke out in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat at Block 229, Toa Payoh Lorong 8, earlier this afternoon.

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Saktiandi Supaat confirmed that most residents have evacuated the block, which holds 96 units.

Arrangements have been made for those affected by the fire, where residents will be informed when it's safe to return to their units, he added.

Around six units were affected by the fire.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) posted an update at around 5:40pm that the injured comprised two people from the affected unit on the tenth floor and three others from neighbouring units.

The five residents were assessed for smoke inhalation, with one also sustaining burn injuries.

All five were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

A child from a neighbouring unit was assessed for smoke inhalation and conveyed to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

A firefighter was also conveyed to SGH as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and feeling unwell during the operation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

SCDF previously stated that the fire on the tenth floor was brought under control with two water jets.

Firefighters carried out forcible entry into a unit on the 11th floor, which was also affected by the fire.

Just a week prior, two died after a flat caught fire at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh on the evening of Jul. 22.
