A man and a woman were seen riding what appeared to be a three-wheeled, two-seater personal mobility aid (PMA) along the streets of Singapore.

In a Jun. 30 post on Facebook, user Patrick Ang posted a photo of the unusual device.

The ride was seen on the pedestrian pavement of a public housing estate.

"Why do I even buy a car?" Ang quipped.

Although it was not mentioned in the post, the photo was likely taken at Compassvale Road in Sengkang.

Costs S$880

After some snooping, another user by the name of Akira Heng apparently managed to find the original listing on Taobao.

It costs S$880 before shipping.

Heng added in a Facebook post of his own that no option for shipping was available at checkout, and that he was unsure how much it would cost.

Not allowed

The device is likely not allowed for use in Singapore.

According to the Land Transport Authority's website, a device can only be considered a mobility scooter if it has one seat.

Devices with more than one seat are not considered mobility scooters, and PMAs must be designed to carry only one individual.

From the first quarter of 2026, only users certified to have relevant medical needs or walking difficulties may use mobility scooters "to ensure continued and sufficient access to public spaces for these users".

This came after feedback regarding the misuse of mobility scooters by "seemingly able-bodies individuals".

The rule does not apply to other devices that fall within the category of PMAs, namely manual and motorised wheelchairs.

Additionally, also from the first quarter of 2026, all motorised PMAs used on public paths must comply with dimension restrictions, and may not exceed 70cm in width, 120cm in length, and 150cm in height.

This is unless an exemption is granted, following certification from a healthcare professional through an assessment.
