Former K-Pop boy group member Moon Taeil, 31, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison on Jul. 10, 2025.

He was convicted of special quasi-rape alongside two other men.

Special quasi-rape refers to committing "aggravated sexual assault using a weapon or when two or more individuals collectively attack a victim who is incapacitated and unable to resist," Chosun Ilbo reported.

According to local news sources, the Seoul Central District Court found that the three men had taken turns "committing sexual acts" against a woman who was "severely intoxicated and unable to resist."

“The nature of the crime is particularly grave,” the court said.

The men were also ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment programme.

Prosecutors had initially sought a seven-year sentence for each of the defendants.

Moon admitted to all charges during his first trial appearance.

The incident

Moon was initially reported to the police for the alleged sexual assault in June 2024, and was subsequently questioned by authorities on Aug. 28, 2024.

No longer in NCT

Shortly after the allegations surfaced, SM Entertainment announced the termination of Moon’s contract on Oct. 10, 2024.

In a statement, the agency said they had “decided to terminate the exclusive contract with Moon Taeil as of today.”

Moon debuted in 2016 as part of NCT’s first unit, NCT U, and later joined the subunit NCT 127.
