Zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.
A 30-year-old Indian national got into trouble with the law in Singapore after he allegedly offered a bribe to two Certis Cisco auxiliary police officers.
Krishnan Ramakrishnan was charged in court on Jul. 10, 2025.
On Apr. 18, 2025, Krishnan allegedly offered a bribe of S$100 to two Certis Cisco auxiliary police officers attached to the National Environment Agency (NEA), Sri Suthan Sellah and Sugeerta B Kalaivanan.
The money was an inducement to waive the enforcement action taken against him for littering.
The two auxiliary police officers rejected the bribe, and the case was subsequently referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
For his alleged action, Krishnan faces one charge punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Another case
In a separate case, a 37-year-old Chinese national was also charged in court on Jul. 10, 2025 for allegedly offering bribes to two Land Transport Authority (LTA) officers.
On Mar. 24, 2025, on three separate occasions, Xu allegedly offered a bribe of S$50 to two LTA officers, Tay Boon Tat Francis and Lim Ghim Wee.
The money was to be an inducement to treat Xu favourably in relation to the outcome of LTA’s investigations of his personal mobility device (PMD), and for the return of his PMD.
Xu’s device had been impounded by LTA after failing to meet the stipulated safety standards during an inspection.
The two LTA officers rejected the bribes, and the case was subsequently referred to the CPIB.
For his alleged actions, Xu faces three charges punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Zero-tolerance approach
CPIB said Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.
Any person convicted of a corruption offence under Section 6 of the Prevention of Corruption Act can be fined up to S$100,000 or sentenced to imprisonment of up to five years or both.
