Bicycles and all PMDs are now banned from pedestrian-only paths.

From Jul. 1, 2025, users of bicycles as well as motorised and non-motorised PMDs using pedestrian-only paths may face penalties of up to S$2,000 and/or imprisonment up to three months for first-time offences.

This rule will be enforced, and enforcement officers will adopt a "measured and considered approach" in determining whether an offence has been committed, LTA said.

Here's what a pedestrian-only path looks like:

The rule, announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Aug. 14, 2024, aims to improve the safety of pedestrians, in the light of more cycling paths being built.

Only pedestrians and PMA users within the speed limit are allowed to use the pedestrian-only paths.

Pedestrians are allowed to walk on cycling paths, but are encouraged to keep to the pedestrian-only paths for their own safety.

In addition, path users moving at a higher speed on the cycling paths should always look out for pedestrians and more vulnerable users.

From the first quarter of 2026, the speed limit for PMAs on public paths will also be reduced from 10km/h to 6km/h, which is similar to a brisk walking speed.

LTA said there remains zero tolerance towards those who speed or ride in a rash and reckless manner on paths.
