S'pore bus driver, 30, jailed after having sex multiple times with girl, then 13, he met on bus
The man has been sentenced to eight years in jail and six strokes of the cane.

A 26-year-old bus driver entered into a relationship with a 13-year-old girl after meeting her on his route.
The girl lodged a police report sometime in June 2022.
The man, now 30, has been sentenced to eight years in jail and six strokes of the cane on Jul. 25.
He pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape, with another six charges taken into consideration, reported CNA.
There is a gag order on all parties to protect the victim’s identity.
How they met
The man was a bus driver with SMRT in 2021 while the victim took his bus to school every day.
In November 2021, the girl was introduced to the man via Instagram.
They then began chatting daily via the platform, reported CNA.
The man eventually asked the girl out on a date after about a week of chatting.
The girl, having developed feelings for him, agreed and they began a relationship.
Had sex in carpark
On Dec. 9, 2021, the man drove the girl to a multi-storey car park where they engaged in sexual intercourse.
Four other charges taken into consideration for sentencing involved similar instances of engaging in sex.
They would meet almost every day after the bus driver’s shift.
Girl reported to police
The pair's relationship ended in early 2022.
Between February and April 2022, the victim's aunts observed a change in her behaviour.
She eventually confided in them that she had engaged in sexual activity with the man in a rented car.
Although her aunts initially wanted to report the matter, the girl pleaded with them not to.
That changed in June 2022, when she approached one of her aunts and asked to go to the police station to file a report.
Her mother was informed only a day before the report was made.
According to CNA, prosecutors sought a sentence of eight to nine years' jail and six strokes of the cane, highlighting that four other similar charges were taken into consideration.
However, they acknowledged the offender’s early guilty plea, cooperation with investigations, and relative youth at the time of the offence.
For statutory rape, an offender can sentenced to a maximum of 20 years' jail, and fined or caned.
