Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has voiced concern over the ongoing military action amid a border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand on Jul. 24.

According to New Straits Times (NST), Anwar said that he had sent messages to both the Cambodian and Thai prime ministers and that he "looks forward to speaking with them later today or tonight".

He expressed hope that the two countries would "de-escalate tensions and return to the negotiating table", and stressed that peace remains the only viable path forward.

Malaysia is the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), in which Thailand and Cambodia are key members.

Asean is a regional grouping of states in Southeast Asia that aims to promote economic and security cooperation among its members.
