3 S'poreans arrested in M'sia during S$2.2 million cocaine-laced vape raid
Three of the four suspects earned S$100 to S$200 a day.
Three Singaporean men were arrested in Selangor, Malaysia during a raid on a syndicate that allegedly distributed cocaine-laced e-vaporiser liquid.
Four men were arrested in total on Jun. 19, the Royal Malaysia Police’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) said in a Facebook post on Jun. 23.
The arrests took place in Ampang Jaya.
A Malaysian, 57, and two Singaporeans, aged 46 and 25, were arrested in a car near a hotel.
Another Singaporean man, 31, was arrested in the hotel lobby.
Liquid vape cartridges
The NCID said it found 10 boxes containing 4,958 units of liquid vape cartridges suspected to contain 9.42 litres of cocaine in a Toyota Vellfire.
The stash is estimated to be valued at up to RM7.29 million (S$2.2 million).
A Malaysia police press conference on Jun. 23 revealed that the syndicate would rent luxury condominium units in Kuala Lumpur, package the drugs there, and distribute them to other countries.
The syndicate is believed to have operated since March.
Three of the suspects were paid S$100 to S$200 a day.
The fourth suspect received the profit from the sale of the vapes.
This is Malaysia’s first known cocaine vape distribution syndicate, according to the New Straits Times.
“We believe the syndicate had planned to use Malaysia as a transit hub, with drugs possibly smuggled in by land routes from the south,” NCID acting director Mat Zani Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said.
“Each vape cartridge was estimated to be worth RM1,500 (S$453) on the international market and could deliver up to 100 inhalations.”
If convicted, the suspects face the death penalty or life imprisonment with whipping.
