S'porean man, 33, arrested for suspected drug trafficking after 2.7kg of cannabis found in MacPherson flat

A 33-year-old Singaporean man was arrested on Jun. 23 in a residential unit in the vicinity of Balam Road for suspected drug trafficking offences.

During the search of the unit, Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers recovered and seized about 2,722g of cannabis from various locations within the unit.

The drugs seized are estimated to be worth more than S$65,000 and could potentially feed the addiction of 390 abusers for a week, a press release by CNB stated.

A photo of the cannabis seized showed that some of the drugs featured an imprint resembling a well-known toy character.

Reminded on harmful effects of cannbis

CNB reminded the public that cannabis is a Class A controlled drug listed under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA).

"The Singapore Government’s stand on illicit drugs, including cannabis, is clear — they are harmful, addictive and can destroy lives, families and communities," the bureau said.

The consumption, possession, trafficking, import or export of any controlled drugs, including cannabis and cannabis products, is an offence under the MDA.

If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

Investigations into the drug activities of the man are ongoing.
