A 42-year-old man is being investigated for wilful trespass after he got hit by a bullet slug in the back while riding in a restricted area gazetted for live-firing exercises, the Singapore police said on Jun. 18.

The police said investigations are ongoing.

The rider, who was not identified, had been cycling on Jun. 15 in an area gazetted for Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) live-firing.

The man was between the Upper Seletar and Upper Peirce reservoirs, in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR), when he got hit.

The SAF was conducting an exercise about 2.3km away at its Nee Soon Range.

The man suffered a gunshot wound in his left lower back.

Police said his friends took him to the National University Hospital the same day.

A bullet slug was lodged in his body and removed following a surgery.

The man was in a stable condition and the injury was not life-threatening.

The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said unauthorised individuals are not allowed to enter gazetted areas designated for SAF live-firing for their own safety, according to the Military Manoeuvres Act.
