1 person arrested, 2 PMDs, 5 bicycles, & 8 e-vaporisers seized in CBD
The person was arrested for allegedly committing a rash act causing hurt.
A multi-agency joint operation to clamp down on errant cyclists and personal mobility devices (PMD) users in the Central Business District (CBD) ended with one person getting arrested, as well as a variety of items confiscated.
Officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Land Transport Authority (LTA), and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) conducted the operation in the CBD on Jun. 6.
A total of 16 offences were detected during the operation, said SPF, LTA, and HSA in a Jun. 11 joint news release.
These included riding a non-compliant PMD on a public road, using an unregistered vehicle, riding a bicycle without a working handbrake, and illegal possession of e-vaporisers.
Besides seizing one unregistered vehicle, five bicycles, and eight e-vaporisers in relation to the offences, the officers also arrested one person for allegedly committing a rash act causing hurt.
Agencies to conduct more such operations
According to the agencies, the joint operation is part of a multi-agency effort to "clamp down errant cyclists and PMD users" and "better safeguard public safety".
The enforcement operation targeted the use of non-compliant PMDs, speeding on public paths, illegal use of PMDs on roads, dangerous and reckless riding on both public paths and roads, and possession of illegal e-vaporisers.
The agencies stressed that they take "a serious view" of such offences that endanger public safety and contravene the law.
"SPF, LTA, and HSA will continue to conduct regular and ad-hoc enforcement operations to ensure greater compliance," read the news release.
The agencies advised cyclists and PMD users to comply with all regulations and practise safe riding habits.
Members of the public are also reminded that it is an offence to possess, use, or purchase e-vaporisers.
