PM Wong to make 1st visit to China as prime minister, will meet Xi Jinping

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will make his first official visit to China as Singapore's Prime Minister from Jun. 22 to 26, 2025.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said PM Wong's introductory visit, at the invitation of Premier Li Qiang, will see both sides commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Singapore-China diplomatic relations and reaffirm the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

It will also be an opportunity for both countries to exchange views on bilateral issues and regional and international developments, PMO added.

Itinerary

PM Wong will visit Beijing, where he will meet President Xi Jinping.

He will also meet Premier Li, who will host a Welcome Ceremony and a Dinner Banquet, and the Chairman of the National People's Congress, Zhao Leji.

PM Wong will also engage with Singaporeans in Beijing at a reception.

PM Wong will attend the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of New Champions in Tianjin and participate in a dialogue session with the forum's president.

He will also attend an official dinner hosted by Premier Li for foreign leaders attending the event.

Accompanying PM Wong on this visit will be:

• Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan
• Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu
• Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance Jeffrey Siow
• Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Sim Ann
• Member of Parliament Syed Harun Alhabsyi

They will also be accompanied by officials from the PMO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

PM Wong will be on leave on Jun. 27.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong will be Acting Prime Minister from Jun. 22 to 25.

Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam will be Acting Prime Minister from Jun. 26 to 27.
