New housing areas will be built in Newton, Orchard, and Dover, revealed the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on Jun. 25.
In its Draft Master Plan 2025, the government agency shared its plans for land use in Singapore over the next 10 to 15 years.
The plans highlighted development and redevelopment works in several parts of Singapore, including at least 80,000 public and private homes across 10 new housing areas, reported The Straits Times.
Newton and Orchard
New neighbourhoods will be developed at Newton and in Paterson, on the doorstep of Orchard Road.
Paterson currently houses shopping malls like ION Orchard, Wheelock Place, and Tang Plaza.
At Newton, new homes will be introduced progressively at three areas: Newton Circus, Scotts Road, and Monk's Hill.
A new mixed-use development will also be built next to Newton MRT station,
Over at Paterson, a mixed-use hub comprising retail, F&B, offices, and residences will be built above Orchard MRT station.
New public spaces will also be developed here, URA said.
Dover and One-North
Residential developments have been planned for parts of Dover and One-North.
New homes will be built at Mediapolis in One-North.
Over at Dover, a mix of public and private homes are planned.
The new Dover-Medway neighbourhood will support residents who wish to stay close to work and learning spaces in the area, URA said.
Paya Lebar-Defu, Kranji, Sembawang
The former Singapore Racecourse at Kranji will be redeveloped into a new residential estate.
The same fate awaits the Sembawang Shipyard, which will cease operations in 2028, and the Paya Lebar Air Base, which will be relocated from the 2030s.
Kranji will house new homes in close proximity to the Kranji Nature Corridor, which is connected to the Rail Corridor.
At Paya Lebar, a new town will be constructed as part of the larger Hougang neighbourhood.
And at Sembawang, the current shipyard site will be transformed into a mixed-use waterfront district, with housing and recreational activities.
