The police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of outrage of modesty cases onboard MRT trains.
On May 15, 2025, a member of the public lodged a police report stating that she witnessed a man allegedly touching a female victim inappropriately inside an MRT train.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Public Transport Security Command and Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on Jun. 7, 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have been involved in other similar cases inside the MRT trains.
The man will be charged in court on Jun. 9, 2025 with the offence of outrage of modesty.
The offence carries a jail term of up to three years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
Suspicious behaviour
In an earlier report by Shin Min Daily News, a woman had claimed that she has seen a man on the MRT train rubbing his crotch against women's bottoms on more than one occasion.
Mothership understands the man in this report is the same man as the one arrested.
She had encountered the man again on May 13.
The same man was seen again at Jurong East MRT station a day after the incident, the eyewitness said.
She claimed that she saw him loitering on the platform apparently looking for a target.
If there was no woman he wanted to follow into the carriage, he would still board the train, ride it for one stop, got off, and apparently then returned to Jurong East MRT station.
The woman subsequently made a police report and informed station staff about the man's behaviour.
She also told Shin Min that she had seen the man behaving suspiciously in a similar situation six months ago.
He was allegedly seen in close proximity to a woman, almost as if he was "clinging" on to her.
The woman did not intervene at the time, as she was worried she would be accused of getting in between a legitimate couple.
It was only after the man got off the train by himself that she realised that he and the woman he was standing close to were not together.
