Man, 22, to be charged over bomb hoax while onboard Abu Dhabi-bound plane from S'pore

The man was found to have no means of carrying out his threat, as no threat items were discovered in his possession.

After a 22-year-old man boarded a flight bound for Abu Dhabi in February 2025, he allegedly published a social media post, stating, "No one here knows I'm going to blow the plane up."

After the Singapore police were alerted to the post, the aircraft was recalled to Changi Airport, and the man was placed under arrest, according to a Jun. 4 news release issued by the Singapore Police Force.

The man was found to have no means of carrying out his threat, as no threat items were discovered in his possession.

He will be charged in court on Jun. 5 with the offence of communicating false information of harmful thing.

The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine of up to S$50,000, or both.

Police identified man within an hour of post

According to the police, they were alerted to the man's social media post at around 7:20pm on Feb. 14.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the man within an hour of the post and confirmed that he was onboard a flight to Abu Dhabi.

At the time, the aircraft was already taxiing on the runway and was about to take off.

The plane was eventually recalled to Changi Airport Terminal 2, where the man was subsequently arrested.
