Former M'sian schoolmates, 77 & 81, get married
They lost contact over 50 years ago but found each other again with the help of his former student.
Elderly couple, Md Sham Kassim, 81, and Azizah Alias, 77, had a simple wedding in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia on Jun. 28.
Md Sham is a former paediatrician and lecturer while Azizah is a government pensioner.
Former schoolmates
Md Sham and Azizah were acquaintances in school over 50 years ago, according to a report by Sinar Harian.
They weren't close then, and they lost contact after Md Sham went to further his studies overseas.
After the passing of his first wife, Md Sham decided to contact Azizah with the help of his former student.
As it turns out, Azizah is the aunt of his former student.
In an interview with Bernama, the father of four and grandfather of six said: "From there, our relationship rekindled. At first, my children were hesitant since my first wife recently passed on. I explained to them that at my age, I need to move on and I don't want to delay my intentions."
First-time bride
Meanwhile, this is Azizah's first marriage.
She said that men had feelings for her when she was younger. However, her heart never opened up to anyone then.
She said she did not feel depressed living alone and was confident that her soulmate would come at the right time.
She accepted Md Sham's proposal to marry as she believes he is the best husband for her.
"I believed my soulmate would come one day. Back then [when we were younger], I wasn't sure. But everyone has their own soulmate."
