A kitten was allegedly abused at a workers' canteen in Tech Park Crescent in Tuas.

According to a tip-off to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), the kitten was placed into a plastic container by a worker on the night of Mar. 26.

The container was then rolled around repeatedly.

The informant, a colleague of the alleged abuser, reported the incident to SPCA on Mar. 29.

A photo shared by the informant shows a tabby kitten crammed tightly into a round container.

The site supervisor was reportedly aware of the situation.

Case escalated

When SPCA carried out a surprise inspection on Apr. 1, they were told that the cat had been released and the worker warned.

The manager declined to show SPCA any CCTV footage or facilitate further investigation.

Speaking to Mothership, SPCA executive director Aarthi Sankar said that they have since escalated the case to the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) at the National Parks Board (NParks) for further action.

SPCA does not have any information about the whereabouts or the condition of the kitten.

In response to Mothership's queries, Jessica Kwok, group director of enforcement and investigation at NParks, confirmed that they are aware of the case.

They are currently looking into the matter, she said.

"Members of the public can play a part by promptly reporting suspected cases of animal cruelty to NParks or providing potential evidence via our website at https://www.nparks.gov.sg/feedback-and-enquiry, or call us via our Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600.

As with all investigations, all forms of evidence are crucial to the process, and photographic and/or video-graphic evidence provided by the public will help."
