JB-S'pore RTS train to start in Dec. 2026, 5 mins travelling time to go overseas
About 5 minutes of travelling time.
The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link train between Singapore and Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The first RTS Link train was unveiled by Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow and Malaysia's Minister of Transport Anthony Loke at a commemorative event held at the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC) on Jun. 30.
Train description
Manufactured by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRC), each train can carry more than 600 passengers each.
The RTS Link will have an overall peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour per direction.
The first trains will depart from each end of the line at 6am, while the last trains will depart at 12am.
The train will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North in Singapore, with about 5 minutes of travelling time.
The shortest interval for a train is 3.6 minutes.
The service is targeted to commence by December 2026 with eight trains.
Off-site systems integration testing
Off-site systems integration testing on the first train will take place at SRTC over the next few months.
This phase of testing will check the integration between the train and other rail systems, such as the signalling system, platform screen doors and onboard communications system.
The testing is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter this year.
