Jamus Lim pens poetic handover message to Eileen Chong, the new WP Youth Wing president
WP youths are "cut from a different cloth", he said.
In a poetic handover message, Workers' Party's (WP) Jamus Lim "[passed] the mantle" of its Youth Wing leadership to new face Eileen Chong.
Chong, a freshly-elected Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP), was co-opted into the WP's Central Executive Committee on Jun. 18.
The 33-year-old was also appointed president of the Youth Wing.
"I have absolute faith that she will guide the group toward wonderful new directions, inject (infect?) the team with mighty fresh energy, and guide them to even loftier heights," Lim wrote in a Jun. 19 Facebook post.
He added that he is "close to 200 seasons in age" as he hands over the reins (he's 49).
Reflecting on experience
Lim was appointed president of the Youth Wing in July 2024.
The position was previously held by deputy treasurer Nathaniel Koh, and before that by former WP member Nicole Seah, who was president until she resigned in 2023.
In his Facebook post, Lim reflected on his experience working with the WP youths.
While he said that he always knew that his stewardship would last only "for a season" given his age, it gave him the opportunity to help the party's young people fulfil their potential.
He added that WP youths are "cut from a different cloth".
"They have given up many a precious night and weekend, and channeled their talent and efforts toward the Party’s larger goal of realising the vision of a more balanced political landscape in Singapore.
"I got to experience their dedication up close, as the president of the Young Wing."
