GastroBeats lucky draw prizes, including BYD car, won by multiple merchants & vendors at event
Prizes.
When the results of the GastroBeats lucky draw were published on Instagram, people noticed that two names in particular kept popping up.
Siblings Tedric Koh and Tedmond Koh each won six prizes, including air tickets, hotel stays, and dining vouchers.
There were 30 prizes in total.
As the comments section filled with questions about their apparent sweeping victory, one of the brothers — Tedric Koh — replied that they had purchased "approximately 1/3 of all raffle tickets fairly".
"With that, winning approximately 1/3 of all prizes is expected," he wrote.
His response however prompted more questions.
Some pointed out that according to the terms and conditions of the draw — dubbed the "People's Raffle" — a winner would be only entitled to one prize each.
Others claimed the Koh brothers are apparently connected with iClaw Taiwan, who appears to be one of the vendors at GastroBeats.
According to their respective LinkedIn pages, Tedric Koh is listed as a co-founder and director, while Tedmond Koh a is a marketing assistant there.
However, the People's Raffle terms and conditions specify that "agents, distributors, and other organisations commercially connected to the promoter" are not allowed to enter the draw.
GastroBeats told Mothership that the organisers did their due diligence and hired a third-party scrutineer from an audit firm to check the terms, and to witness the draw.
Everything was carried out to the scrutineer's satisfaction, the event organiser said.
They did not clarify whether merchants and vendors fit under the criterion of "agents, distributers, and other organisations commercially connected to the promoter".
They similarly did not respond to queries about how participants were able to win multiple prizes.
Merchants
Other GastroBeats merchants and vendors also apparently won prizes at the draw.
Callistus Ong, apparently a managing director at DCS Card Centre, won a Bearbrick.
DCS is GastroBeats' official payment provider.
While the draw's arguably biggest prize — a BYD Atto 3 — went to Hoo Chong Yong, apparent co-owner of Mukshidonna.
The Korean restaurant was one of the food stalls at the festival.
A PR spokesperson for DCS said that their colleague, Ong, had obtained her raffle tickets through legitimate means.
"As for the draw mechanics, we defer to GastroBeats to provide more clarity on their selection process," the spokesperson said.
The draw
GastroBeats is an annual lifestyle event best-known for its showcase of homegrown food vendors.
The People's Raffle, its flagship lucky draw, is its way of "giving back to the people", according to the media factsheet.
Participants had to spend S$3 on a bottle of Coca-Cola at the event in order to be eligible for the draw.
Prizes included the BYD Atto 3, resort and hotel stays, AirAsia flights, concert passes, dining vouchers, and more.
