Amongst my childhood memories, there’s one that stands out in particular.
It was a random weekend, and my family woke up early in a bid to get a headstart at the beach.
I remember my relatives appearing with trays of food and several 1.5L bottles of drinks for our afternoon barbecue by the beach.
I know this may sound ordinary, but the part that I looked back on fondly was how my cousins and I dived into the sea with all our clothes on, and struggled to get rid of all the sand that had deposited deep within our pockets.
As I got older, I’ve come to realise that that became one of my core memories from my growing up years.

From Jun. 20 till 29, the mall atrium is transformed into “Sunny Side Arena”, a colourful, interactive sports playground where families and groups of friends can bond over fun activities.

Instead of the usual dining, you now get to do things together and create shared memories.
Sports has a way of bringing people together, trust me. But unlike my experience, you don’t have to sweat it out as much. Family and friends who can’t live without aircon can get active together too.
At the Sunny Side Arena, there are seven experiential stations for you to participate, collect stamps and even snap cute photos, so here’s a quick lowdown:
- Swingin’ in the Sun
This mini-golf challenge puts your creativity to the test.
You’ll have to let the wheel of fortune decide your tool– ranging from the trusty golf club to something wilder like a pool noodle, an umbrella, or even a baseball bat.

- Ice Cream Dunk
Think you have a pretty good aim?
You can put your accuracy to the test by tossing giant scoops of “ice cream” into cone-shaped hoops.

- It’s Raining Beach Volleyballs
Step into a high-speed beach volleyball challenge where your reflexes will be put to the test.
How many “volleyballs” can you block before the time is up? We’ll find out.

- Slide or Sink
It’s like table hockey, except that you’ll be playing against yourself.
Give your puck the perfect slide to land them safely on the island to score points, but don’t go overboard or they’ll splash into the sea.

Show off your aim and see how many hearts you can capture.
