Caught on camera
The attempt, which reportedly failed, was caught on the camera of at least two dashcams of vehicles parked in the vicinity.
The potential victim was a woman, who was crossing the lane in between a row of shops and parked vehicles.
Her handbag was slung on her right arm and the motorcycle approached her relatively quickly in the opposite direction.
Footage from another dashcam showed the pillion rider holding on to a device in one hand, which he used in the attempt at snatching the woman's bag.
The snatch theft attempt failed.
The woman was apparently startled by the brazen act, which caused another passerby to look back.
However, the woman continued walking and shrugged off the attempted crime.
Responses
Footage of the act has caused alarm online among Malaysians.
Malaysians said locals and foreigners should be aware of their surroundings when in Malaysia, while others urged the authorities to take a firmer stance against such crimes.
