Macron says he was just joking with wife after video showed him pushed in face in airplane

French President Emmanuel Macron has dismissed a viral video going around of his wife, Brigitte Macron, seemingly shoving him in the face.

Macron appeared taken aback, but soon smiled and waved to the press outside.

As the couple descended the stairs, Brigitte is seen holding the railing instead of taking Macron's hand.

The footage was taken in Vietnam, where Macron is embarking on a Southeast Asian tour.

His trip there is the first by a French president in nearly a decade and is to boost France's influence in its former colony.

Speaking to reporters later, Macron claimed that the moment was just a lighthearted moment where the couple was just "joking around".

According to CNN, Macron's office initially denied the incident, before moving to downplay it.

A source close to Macron told a CNN affiliate that it was a "moment of togetherness".
