3 sambar deer seen at Woodlands Road, scared off by honking sounds

Three sambar deer were seen in Woodlands in the middle of the road or very close to it on early May 25 morning.

A video uploaded at around 3am on Sunday showed two of the animals on the road and one on the grass patch.

The location has been identified as Woodlands Road towards Yew Tee Flyover.

At one point in the 55-second video, two vehicles were seen whisking past, but on the opposite side of the road.

Subsequently, honking sounds could be heard, and the sambar deer appeared to be scared away as they ran off the road.

Responses

The video attracted numerous comments that expressed shock that the sambar deer had ventured out of their habitat into the urban areas.

Others advised slowing down in these areas where sambar deer sightings have been previously reported.

There have been reported accidents involving sambar deer on Singapore roads.

These creatures are sometimes spotted venturing onto roads near forested areas, such as Mandai.

Motorists are advised to drive within the speed limit and be alert to animals crossing when driving along roads flanked by forested areas, especially where there are signs that indicate animal crossings.
