Independent candidate Darryl Lo congratulated People's Action Party (PAP) candidate Melvin Yong on his Radin Mas Single Member Constituency (SMC) win, following the results of the 2025 general election on May 3.
The 28-year-old also thanked Yong for the clean contest in the election, and proposed suggestions on issues he learned from residents while walking on the ground.
Lo, Yong, and the People's Alliance for Reform's (PAR) Kumar Appavoo had contested in Radin Mas SMC.
Yong reclaimed his seat in parliament with 69.17 per cent, while Lo secured 23.47 per cent of the votes.
Lo shares concerns he heard from Radin Mas residents
In an Instagram post on May 4, which included screenshots of the email he sent to Yong, the independent candidate said he learned a lot from the general election and would like to share the concerns raised by Radin Mas residents.
This included sightings of rats and cockroaches at night along Block 103 and 104 of Bukit Purmei and the Bukit Purmei Hillock, a cockroach nest outside the condominium on 100 Wishart Road, and two broken lampposts on the road leading to Reflections by Keppel Bay's side entrance.
Lo noted that some middle-aged residents had requested that the Bukit Purmei Bird Arena lights and fans be turned on until 10:30pm as it was a place for them to socialise and read newspapers together.
He added that some residents requested a dog run, and suggested the stretch of land near Safra and the open-space amphitheatre at Hillock Park as possible places that could be converted for this purpose.
Lo also reiterated the three proposals he made during his campaign, which were to increase drink driving penalties to include a mandatory jail term; increasing the Ministry of Education (MOS) financial assistance scheme eligibility cap from S$3,000 to S$5,000 per household income; and lowering the age for singles to ballot for public housing.
He ended the email by signing off as a "Radin Mas Resident".
