Classmates of a 15-year-old student diagnosed with cancer came together to fulfil his final wish — to take a graduation photo with them.

Ren Junjie (transliteration) passed away the following day, on May 18.

The heartwarming story quickly went viral on Chinese social media platforms, including Douyin and Xiaohongshu.

Graduation photo at hospital

Ren, a junior high school student from Sichuan Province, China, was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and had to take a leave of absence from school, according to local media reports.

Unfortunately, his condition worsened rapidly in early May.

Ren reportedly expressed deep regret about not being able to return to school to take graduation photos with his classmates.

When his classmates heard about his situation, they decided to visit him in the hospital to take the photos together.

In videos circulating online, Ren can be seen wearing his school uniform and an oxygen mask, lying on a hospital bed pushed by some of his classmates.

The students gathered in the hospital courtyard, reserving the central spot for Ren.

Many of his classmates reportedly also wrote letters and offered prayers, hoping for his recovery.

A final goodbye

Ren passed away around 4am the next day.

His father said he was deeply moved by the kindness of his son's classmates, noting that more than 60 of them came to see Ren.

He expressed his gratitude, saying he was thankful that they had not forgotten his child.
