A Singaporean man was arrested in Johor Bahru on Apr. 23 following a drug raid in the southern-most state in Malaysia.
The suspect was caught at an apartment unit in Danga Bay, which allegedly housed drugs worth RM1.6 million (S$480,000), according to The Star.
He was among five people arrested in raids carried out in Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi and Kluang districts in Johor.
Allegedly carried fake identification
The Singaporean man was arrested during a raid at the Danga Bay apartment at around 10pm on Apr. 23.
Investigations involving Singapore authorities revealed that he had a previous record.
During the arrest, police discovered several types of drugs, including more than 10,000g (10kg) of ecstasy powder.
He was also found with a fake identification document.
All five men are currently under remand to assist with investigations.
Five men arrested in five-day raid
Authorities retrieved RM8.97 million (S$2.6 million) worth of drugs during the five-day raid from Apr. 20 to 24.
These include drugs such as syabu, ecstasy, ketamine, Erimin 5 pills, heroin, ganja, and yaba pills.
According to The Star, Johor police chief M. Kumar said in a press conference on Apr. 29 that the police had struck a "significant blow" to the syndicates by arresting five men aged between 22 and 47 including the Singaporean man, whose age was not disclosed.
"These operations dismantled well-organised distribution channels that used gated and guarded apartments and vehicles to store and move drugs," he added.
