M'sia man, 27, allegedly assaults & tries to drag female jogger, 20, into bush at Malacca park
A passer-by noticed the man's alleged deeds and subdued him.
A 20-year-old woman was jogging at a park in Malacca on Apr. 10 night when a 27-year-old man apparently held her from the back and covered her mouth.
He then allegedly tried to drag the woman to a nearby bush to violate her, but a passer-by noticed his deeds and subdued him, reported Oriental Daily.
The man was subsequently detained by the police and is currently under investigation for molestation, according to China Press.
Patrols in the vicinity enhanced
According to Malacca police, the woman went for her night run alone at Bukit Serindit Recreational Park at around 10pm on Apr. 10.
At around 12:05am on Apr. 11, police were alerted to the alleged case of molestation, and the man was subsequently arrested near the scene.
Investigations revealed that the accused is currently single and unemployed.
He also underwent a urine drug test, and his results came back negative.
While police continue their investigations, member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly Mohd Noor Helmy said in an Apr. 11 Facebook post that he had alerted Malacca city mayor Shadan Othman to the incident.
Besides asking the mayor to take further action on the case, Noor Helmy shared that patrols would also be enhanced in the vicinity.
