On the day when Parliament was dissolved and Polling Day was announced, members of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) gathered at their Bukit Timah HQ for a meeting in the evening.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, they were likely there to discuss about candidate lineups and strategies ahead of the upcoming general election.
Zaobao also spotted former Workers' Party MP Leon Perera in attendance.
PSP members started arriving at their HQ at around 7pm. When approached by the reporters, PSP’s First Vice-Chairperson Hazel Poa kept things tight-lipped, only replying “no comment" when she arrived at 7:50pm.
Founder and party Chairman Tan Cheng Bock and Secretary-General Leong Mun Wai arrived at around 8pm for the meeting.
Speaking briefly to the media, Leong said that PSP's slate of candidates will be confirmed in the coming days, and that they are planning to hold a press conference, likely to be this week, Zaobao reported.
In Jan 2025, Perera posted on social media that he was working and living in New York City and expected to stay there for a while.
However, he remained active online and even attended PSP’s National Day dinner in August 2024.
At the time, he clarified that he was helping PSP “in a personal capacity as a non-member”, which already sparked speculation about a possible political comeback, this time under PSP.
Perera had resigned from the WP in July 2023 over a past extramarital affair with then-fellow WP member Nicole Seah, which had ended by the time the resignation occurred.
When Mothership reached out to Perera, he declined to comment.
