New faces

Fu introduced Hoe and Lee as new volunteers in their team who will be assisting the town council in managing the Jurong, Clementi and Bukit Batok area.

Hoe was a former teacher who spent several years in the private sector before taking on his current job as the director of philanthropy at The Majurity Trust.

“They will bring new energy and experience in community bonding and building to the current team,” Fu added.

More than 200 upgrading projects in the next five years

In her speech at the event, Fu also highlighted that the transition to direct management has enabled the town council to be more responsive and effective at addressing Jurong-Clementi residents' concerns in the past five years.

The Jurong-Clementi Town Council currently oversees 84,685 residential and commercial units across seven divisions: Bukit Batok, Bukit Batok East, Clementi, Jurong Central, Jurong Spring, Taman Jurong, and Yuhua.

Over 80 per cent of residents expressed satisfaction in the latest Municipal Services Survey, Fu said.

The Repairs & Redecoration work has been expedited since the country moved on from Covid-19 and the town council has completed R&R works for over 361 blocks, with 296 blocks currently underway and 243 blocks in the pipeline.

Fu also added that sustainability is at the core of the Jurong town and highlighted the importance of partnership.

At the event, Fu also announced the partnership with Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) & Jurong Community Hospital (JCH) on the safe use of fitness equipment in public spaces.

"Jurong-Clementi Town Council is proud to lead the way as the first Town Council in Singapore with this wellness-focused estate," Fu said.

In the next five years, Jurong residents can look forward to a total of more than 200 upgrading projects, which include nine older estates to be rejuvenated, a new ‘Sports-in-Precinct’ initiative in Yuhua, and more than 40 sheltered linkways.

Jurong residents can also expect the Integrated Transport Hub, more cycling paths, the new Clementi Polyclinic and Jurong Polyclinic, and the new Science Centre in the near future.

Fu also added that the team will work hit the ground to understand new areas such as Hong Kah North better.

"Hong Kah North plan will be our plan, if we get the mandate to manage the town," Fu said.
