May 3 will be a significant date for the Ong family as brothers Ong Ye Kung and Howard Ong will face the polls in their countries' respective elections.
The Australian federal election will be held on May 3, where the elder Ong will contest for a seat in the Australian Parliament.
Ong is the Liberal candidate for Tangney, an electoral division in the state of Western Australia.
Singaporeans will vote in the 2025 general election on the same day, in which the younger Ong will likely lead the People's Action Party's (PAP) Sembawang team.
On Apr. 15, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam dissolved Parliament and announced that Nomination Day would be on Apr. 23.
After nine days of campaigning and a Cooling-off Day on May 2, Singapore will head to the polls on May 3.
Who is Howard Ong?
According to the Liberal Party website, Ong grew up in Singapore and served his national service as an army lieutenant.
He moved to Western Australia over 28 years ago to pursue higher education at Curtin University.
He met his wife in Australia and decided to settle there.
Over the past two decades, the couple started an IT business while actively serving in the community.
If elected, Ong said he would focus on making home ownership more accessible for young Australians and addressing the cost of living, among other things.
