Four students in Punggol attempted to catch the bus by dashing across the road — and almost got hit by an oncoming car.

The incident, which took place along Sumang Walk, was posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page.

It apparently occurred at around 5:30pm on Mar. 14.

The students appeared to be in the Yusof Ishak Secondary School uniform.

What happened

Dashcam footage from the oncoming car showed the four students running across the road in the opposite direction.

The car had to brake hard to avoid hitting them when they appeared to want to make a run for the bus.

One of the four students made it across all the way to catch the bus, despite slowing down in the middle of the road just as the car braked in time.

Out of the three who did not make it across, one of them had to backpedal to return to the road divider.

Many commenters reprimanded the students, saying that they lacked awareness and should be taught road safety in school.

However, others said the driver was at fault for driving relatively fast in a school zone and should have been more cautious.

Yusof Ishak Secondary School principal Chen Ziyang told Mothership that the school is aware of the video.

"We will be engaging the students to counsel them and work with their parents to guide them on road safety awareness," he said, adding:

"The safety of our students is of utmost importance, and the school will continue to partner our parents to remind and educate our students on using the roads safely."

In 2022, a student died after being struck by a car along Sumang Walk.
