Two people were sent to the hospital after a fire broke out inside an electrical riser at a HDB block in Jalan Kayu on Mar. 15.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the scene at Block 447A Jalan Kayu at 7:30am.
Fire involved contents inside electrical riser
SCDF said that the fire involved contents inside an electrical riser along the common corridor on the seventh floor.
The fire was later extinguished using a hosereel and a dry powder fire extinguisher.
Around 10 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Two persons were taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.
SCDF is still investigating the cause of the fire.
Electricity restored, repair works underway
In response to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from Ang Mo Kio Town Council confirmed that electricity has been restored to some of the affected units, while its conservancy team had also assisted residents in cleaning debris and sooty walls.
Repair works such as rewiring and repainting have also started.
The spokesperson also urged residents to keep risers free of obstruction, "for the safety of everyone".
A notice painted in red on the door of the riser read: "No storage of item."
According to the spokesperson, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC (Fernvale) Gan Thiam Poh had visited the site to extend his support and concern to the affected residents.
