If you're taking public transport this weekend, you may notice that SBS Transit bus captains and station staff are sporting new purple and orange uniforms.

The transport operator said in a news release that these changes will be made from Mar. 16.

The uniform refresh marks their first in over a decade.

New uniform

The new uniform features lighter shades of purple and orange — SBS Transit's corporate colours — against a warm sand background.

It is designed to be worn tucked-out and includes reflective strips for enhanced visibility and safety, eliminating the need for a separate vest.

It is also made from breathable, anti-wrinkle fabric suited for Singapore's humid climate.

Meanwhile, the pants are designed with an elastic waist band for comfort, and will come with additional pockets.

For comparison, here's what the previous uniform looked like:

The new uniform will also come with new black jackets accented with purple and orange to complete the look.

SBS Transit's MRT station staff, interchange staff and operation control centre personnel will be sporting similar uniforms and jackets as part of the refresh.

The new uniform was designed in collaboration with three designers from NAFA's School of Fashion Studies, Kartika Budiyanto, Shannon Cheng, and Karen Lee.

It was designed with insights from over 3,000 SBS Transit employees and union leaders.

Debut

The new uniform was debuted at Seletar Bus Depot on Mar. 16 during the launch of 29 bus services operated by SBS Transit.

SBS Transit’s Group CEO Jeffrey Sim said the uniform refresh is not just a new look but also a renewal of the operator's commitment to their purpose and values.

"Every time our frontline colleagues put it on, it serves as a daily reminder of our dedication to moving passengers safely, reliably, and sustainably," said Sim.

SBS Transit said it has started engaging social service agencies and special education schools, to ensure commuters who rely on public transport staff for assistance can continue to identify them easily in their new uniforms.
