South Korean singer Choi Whee Sung, also known by his stage name, Wheesung, was found dead at his residence in Seoul on Mar. 10 evening.

He was 43.

According to The Korea Times, Choi was found unconscious at around 6:30pm (Korea time).

His mother alerted local authorities.

Although the authorities are still investigating the cause of his death, the police said there were no signs of foul play or break-ins, reported Korea Daily.

The police added that they appeared to have found Choi's body "a significant amount of time" after his death, and it was possible that he could have taken his own life or suffered from an overdose, reported Korea JoongAng Daily.

Choi convicted of illegal drug use in 2021

Choi made his debut in 2002 when he released his first solo album "Like A Movie".

He was known for songs, such as "Can't I," "With Me," and "Heartsore Story".

However, Choi's music career took a downturn in 2020 when he was found unconscious twice after abusing etomidate, a sleep-inducing drug, reported Korea JoongAng Daily.

A year later, a Korean court found him guilty of illegal drug abuse and handed him a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years.

In February 2025, Choi announced on Instagram that he would be hosting a fan meeting to celebrate his birthday.

In a photo posted on Mar. 6, he wrote in the caption that he looked forward to seeing his supporters at a joint concert on Mar. 15, where he was scheduled to perform alongside Korean singer KCM.
