Kheng Nam Lee Teochew Porridge at Havelock Road closing down after Mar. 20, 2025
For old-timers.
Kheng Nam Lee Teochew Porridge, a four-decade-old institution at 715 Havelock Road, will be closing down after Mar. 20, 2025.
The announcement by the food shop was put up on social media on Mar. 9.
"It is with heavy heart that we announce the closure of Kheng Nam Lee Teochew Porridge," the post read.
"We want to thank each and every one of our valued customers for their loyalty and support over the years. We wished you all the best and appreciate the memories we’ve shared."
Known for its braised duck, pork belly, chye poh omelette (preserved radish egg) and an array of dishes, as well as having Hong Kong celebrity photos on its walls, it is a well-known supper spot frequented by revellers and old-timers as it is in the vicinity of clubbing and pubbing spots.
However, interest has waned over the years, potentially due to the demise of watering holes and nightlife in the area.
According to the staff there, the closure will see the shop space rented out to others instead of being used to run the food business.
