Meta to start retrenching up to 5% of staff in various countries on Monday: Reuters
Those losing their jobs will be informed as early as Monday morning at 5am.

Facebook owner Meta Platforms is expected to retrench employees in the second week of February starting Monday, Reuters reported on Friday, Feb. 7.
The company informed staff in internal memo seen by Reuters and Business Insider that it is pushing ahead with the hiring of machine learning engineers and cutting out low performers.
The memo referred to the cuts as "performance terminations" and was first reported by The Information.
What's going to happen
Those who will lose their jobs across different countries will be informed from 5am local time on Monday, Feb. 10, it was reported.
Notices will go out to these employees, including those in the United States.
Those in more than a dozen countries across Europe, Asia and Africa will receive their notifications between Feb. 11 and 18, the memo indicated.
However, it was also reported that employees in Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands will not be subjected to the cuts "due to local regulations".
The company previously confirmed in January that it was cutting 5 per cent of its "lowest performers".
Some of the positions will be backfilled.
Meta, via a spokesperson, declined to comment when approached by Reuters.
