Eggs thrown & debtor's notes left at Yishun flat door, man, 39, arrested for loanshark harassment

A 39-year-old man, who allegedly left two debtor's notes outside a Yishun flat, was arrested by the police on Feb. 25 and will be charged in court on Feb. 27.

Both notes left at a residential unit along Yishun Ring Road read: "Don't think your house got CCTV. I will do all your neighbours. Next time I come is not eggs."

Allegedly thrown eggs at unit's door

According to the police in a Feb. 26 news release, they were alerted to the alleged case of loanshark harassment at around 8:50pm on Feb. 24.

The accused also allegedly threw eggs at the unit's door.

In a photo attached to the news release, the unit's door and front porch were tainted by eggs and cracked eggshells.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from the Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the accused and arrested him.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused is allegedly involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

First-time offenders convicted under the Moneylenders Act 2008 could be fined up to S$50,000, jailed for up to five years, and receive up to six strokes of the cane.

'Zero tolerance' against loanshark harassment

The police said they have "zero tolerance" for loanshark harassment activities.

"Those who deliberatively vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law," the police said.

The police also advised members of the public to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.

They can call the police at 999 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
