Telegram WhatsappGardens by the Bay is celebrating Singapore and Thailand’s 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with a showcase of Orchids from Thailand or with Thai origins.

Orchids from the Land of Smiles

The floral showcase named “Orchids from the Land of Smiles" is located, of course, in the Cloud Forest in Gardens By the Bay.

The showcase, which was a collaboration between Gardens by the Bay and the Royal Embassy of Thailand, weaved together several familiar elements of Thai culture that were “intricately recreated” by Thai artisans, and inspired by Thai landscaping techniques.

Unique characteristics

Orchids have developed unique characteristics in order to cope with a wide range of habitats.

The display, which was put together in organic and naturalistic ways, highlights these characteristics, such as by mounting some of the orchids on tree trunks, to showcase the long aerial roots of vandaceous orchids.

The display is also set against the “sweeping background of legends and cultural icons of Thailand”, such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

SG60 Collaborations

The showcase is the first in a year-long series of garden-themed SG60 collaborations throughout 2025 to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and other countries.

These collaborations include changing floral displays in the Flower Dome, such as Lilytopia with Italy, Rose Romance with the United Kingdom, and another orchid-themed showcase with Malaysia called Orchid Extravaganza.

The showcase was launched on Feb. 14, and is open from 9am to 9pm.

Admission to the Cloud Forest applies, and is s$8 for seniors and children, and S$12 for adult Singapore residents.
