A teen with disability pleaded guilty to a charge of committing sexual assault, The Star reported.

Muhamad Adam Haiqal Abdullah, 19, sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl while she was prostrating at a mosque in Selangor, Malaysia at around 6:20am on Feb. 21.

Surveillance footage shared online showed the teen sneaking into the women's prayer hall.

He approached the child from behind, who was praying alone in the back row, and proceeded to carry her away.

The teen attempted to assault the child and fled after she resisted, reported New Straits Times.

Adam was found to have an OKU (person with disabilities) card for a learning disability since he was young.

His sentence will be decided on Mar. 27, while the court awaits a social report from the Social Welfare Department.

For his offence, Adam may be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in jail and whipped.

In response to the incident, Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri said on Feb. 26 that mosques nationwide need to have stricter measures to ensure the safety of children and prevent individuals from taking advantage of them.

She also urged users to stop sharing the video as it involved a minor.
