What started out as a curious climb turned into a misadventure and rescue operation for a ginger cat in Singapore after it got stuck in a tree.

Speaking to Mothership, a reader said that the incident occurred on Feb. 8 at around 6:15pm at East Coast Park.

The cat was later saved by passers-by after more than one hour.

People climbed and shook tree

In the video provided by the reader, three people could be seen climbing up a tree trunk in an attempt to save the cat.

Several others held onto leashes tied around the tree, pulling on them repeatedly to shake the cat off the tree.

A group of people could also be seen holding out a beach mat under the tree branch for the cat to land on.

According to the reader, the cat had climbed halfway up the tree near some barbecue pits at the Parkland Green area in the park.

It proceeded to climb higher until it reached the top while its owner watched on, but later got stuck on a branch.

Members of the public started noticing that it was stuck, and gathered to provide items such as dog leashes and beach mats for the rescue operation.

Owner "thankful" for the rescue

While stuck, the cat had been meowing a lot and seen gripping the branches tightly, said the reader.

It finally fell off the tree and scurried off after one and a half hours.

The owner was also "very thankful" and had also expressed their appreciation to those that came forward to help.
