SCDF evacuates over 60 people after Bugis restaurant gas leak
The gas leak was reportedly caused by a leaking underground pipe.
60 people were evacuated from a restaurant in Bugis after a gas leak was discovered.
The Singapore Civil Defense Force, responding to a query from Mothership, said that they were alerted to a gas leak around 6:45 pm on Feb. 5 at 33 Liang Seah Street opposite Bugis MRT station.
Lianhe Zaobao reported witnesses saying that a bad smell could be observed in the area as well.
The SCDF detected a gas leak in the back alleyway of the location, the Oriental Cuisine restaurant.
SCDF personnel then used a water jet to disperse the gas.
Precautionary measures
As a precautionary measure, the Singapore Police Force and SCDF evacuated about 60 people from the area.
Witnesses that Zaobao spoke to said that several surrounding shops closed temporarily and that the incident attracted many onlookers nearby.

A video posted to TikTok at around the time of the incident showed several police cars, a fire engine, and at least one ambulance in the area, with a police blocking off the street.

It also showed over a dozen firefighters and policemen in attendance.
Underground pipes
Around 7:30 pm, SP Group was alerted to the leak.
Responding to queries by Mothership, SP Group said it immediately deployed officers to the incident.
These officers found a leak in the underground gas pipeline, isolating it to facilitate repairs.
SP Group is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the leak, and repair works are in progress.
