A punter in Singapore tried to bet on 10 consecutive 4D numbers — 6660 to 6669 — for the Sunday, Feb. 23 draw.

But the only sold-out number in the series, 6666, ended up as the first prize-winning number.

As a result, the punter lost out on the S$2,000 first prize payout as his S$1 "Big" bet did not go through.

A photo of the lottery ticket has since been shared online here and here, but is understood to have originated from a post on the Xiaohongshu social media platform.

Singapore Pools can deem a number as "sold out" as many people might have already bet on it.

Responses

The so-close-yet-so-far experience was met with commiseration in the comments section of the posts.

One commenter showed a photo of her own lottery ticket, in which she had also tried to buy the same first prize-winning number, 6666, but also failed as it was sold out.

Her ticket revealed that she actually failed to place two bets on two winning numbers: 6666 and 0000, which was one of the consolation prize numbers for the Sunday draw.

A S$1 "Big" bet on the number 0000 would have won her S$60.

As she failed to make both bets, she lost out on a total of S$2,060 in potential winnings.

However, some were suspicious of the authenticity of the betting slip with 10 numbers printed on it.

Some commenters pointed out that betting slips issued by Singapore Pools are typically only sold with a maximum of four bets printed on one slip.

But a few avid punters also explained that 10 numbers can be displayed in one slip, in this case, by betting on "666R", where "R" represents all possible numbers from zero to nine.

Better luck next time.
