A woman in Singapore and her boyfriend were horrified when they discovered not one, not two, but six cockroaches running around in her Gojek car.

The woman, who goes by username @tffnyzhng on TikTok, recounted her ordeal in a video on Jun. 19.

Nightmare

Calling it a "nightmarish ride," she posted a compilation of cockroaches scurrying inside the car.

One roach was crawling on one of the car doors, while another was moving around the passenger seatbelt buckle.

Speaking to Mothership, Tiffany, 26, said she spotted at least six cockroaches in the car.

The couple initially spotted "one small cockroach" and asked the driver for a piece of tissue paper so they could catch it.

Her boyfriend managed to catch it and threw it into a plastic bag, which the driver took from them.

"At that point, I thought, 'Oh, he’s quite nice about it'." Tiffany recounted.

However, as the ride progressed, more roaches appeared.

Nonchalant driver

Not wanting to disturb the driver while on the road, the couple did not alert the driver, thinking they could "coexist" with the roaches for the remaining duration of the ride.

However, as more roaches appeared, Tiffany's boyfriend raised the issue with the driver.

"The driver didn’t seem too surprised and told us that he had 'already done fogging'," she said.

He also mentioned that the roaches could be from a construction site near where he lives, Tiffany added.

In the video, Tiffany and her boyfriend can be seen sitting on the edge of their seats, distressed by their unwelcome ride companions.

"As for the driver, he wasn’t defensive but nor was he apologetic about the situation. He just seemed very chill and calm even when my boyfriend and I were freaking out in the back," Tiffany said.

The ride ended up lasting 40 minutes — longer than usual due to traffic.

Gojek's response

Tiffany expressed her disappointment with Gojek's response to her experience, adding that she was "traumatised" after the ride.

She posted a screenshot of a conversation with a Gojek's representative who said they attempted to contact her boyfriend but were unable to reach him.

However, Tiffany said her boyfriend did not receive a single phone call.

On the morning of Jun. 20, Tiffany's boyfriend received a call and an email from Gojek.

They apparently apologised for the situation and offered a full refund as well as two S$5 vouchers.

However, she said this incident "single-handedly ended [her] patronage of Gojek," despite having used the ride-hailing app consistently for years.

In response to Mothership's queries, a Gojek spokesperson said that the well-being of their customers is their utmost concern and that they are committed to providing a positive experience for all users on the platform.

"A key part of this is creating a safe and enjoyable environment for our customers and ensuring that our driver-partners meet Gojek's high standards of service and conduct, which includes the cleanliness levels of their vehicles."

The spokesperson further said that they have spoken to both the driver-partner and the customer involved to resolve the matter and take the necessary action.

"We will also continue to work hard to strengthen education outreach for our driver-partners, to ensure they can provide a positive ride-hailing experience to our customers," they said.
