Orange cat aptly named 'King Oyen' arrives on superbike, steals hearts at M'sia's National Day rehearsal

Amidst jet displays and marching contingents, it was an orange cat that got the crowd roaring the loudest at the rehearsals for Malaysia's National Day celebrations in the country's capital on Aug. 29.

The six-year-old orange American Shorthair, flaunting a tanjak (traditional Malay male headgear) and shades, was unfazed by it all.

King Oyen

According to New Straits Times, the handsome feline, named "King Oyen", arrived on his own "superbike".

This was King Oyen's fourth Malaysia National Day showing.

In a video on his Instagram page, which has more than 24,500 followers, King Oyen could be seen sitting comfortably in a man's arms.

He was then raised to the crowd.

This got them roaring, all while King Oyen watched on calmly.

Even when jets screeched overhead, King Oyen was unperturbed.

No stranger to large crowds and cameras

According to The Star, King Oyen was no stranger to large crowds and cameras.

"In fact, he loves posing for them," the feline's owner, Siti Zalifah Abdul Aziz, 53, said.

According to Siti, King Oyen's custom-made patriotic outfit is sponsored by local pet stores each year.

Apart from having attended the annual celebrations multiple times in the past, Siti shared that she regularly brings King Oyen along for outdoor activities, such as canoeing, cycling and horseback riding.

All these have helped King Oyen feel safe and secure in different environments.

"Once he felt safe with us, he naturally became comfortable around people," Siti told The Star.

"Now, he actually loves being in the middle of crowds," she also said.

King Oyen's indoor personality departs from his composed outdoor demeanour though, with the cat being described as "mischievous" when at home.

Attendees at the rehearsal on Aug. 29 vied to take photos with King Oyen, with one visitor describing the orange cat as a "VIP".
